Ilya didn’t tell Shane when the doctor had him ‘turn his head and cough’ 6 months ago at his annual physical and the doctor had furrowed his brow and told Ilya it would be best to follow up with a Urologist because it could be ‘nothing’ or it could be ‘something’.
Something Ilya didn't want to deal with or think about because the season was just starting and he and Shane had big plans toward a Stanley cup this season being on the same team and being married and open and honest for the first time in their lives. He didn't want to think about what that something could be. His life was just becoming everything he had ever wanted and dreamed of. He didn't plan for ‘something.’ So, he pretended it was ‘nothing.’

Shane blinked at Rose. "What," he asked, voice flattening. His fingers twitched against his glass, condensation dripping onto the tablecloth. The words didn't compute. A relationship dynamic sounded like something from a psychology textbook, not whatever chaotic, magnetic pull existed between him and Ilya. "What dynamic? Nothing like that is going on."
Rose’s fingers froze against her glass. She studied Shane’s face. Watching the furrow between his brows, the way his jaw tensed like he was bracing for impact. He genuinely didn’t know. The realization hit her then. “Shane,” she said slowly, “you seriously don’t see it?”
