Work Text:

There were certain things that Lex never expected to do in his life, and teaching was one of those things. He had never had a desire to teach someone anything. He had tried once or twice when he was younger and had more patience, but it never worked out, and then he had a child. Kon wasn't like normal children. He had abilities no normal child could ever dream of, and that was because Kon was only half human, but at the same time, even that human half of him wasn't normal, as he was his son. He had the Luthor intellect. Kon was special. He was his son, and because of that fact combined with a few other factors, Lex made an exception to this unspoken rule of anti-teaching. Kon learned fast and picked up on most things other children didn't. Lex had no doubt that whatever lesson he needed to teach Kon would come easy for him, and for the most part this was true. Kon watched him and copied what he saw. He repeated back whatever he was told without issue. It was the shit that Lex's intellect couldn't fix that was the issue, as Kon was still a baby. Despite his enhanced abilities, motor function was sometimes still a challenge, and that led to this moment between them.

This afternoon Lex decided to work with Kon on writing his name. He decided to start with his first name, as three letters are a lot easier to write out than six letters. Kon was supposed to trace over the letters he had written out ten times and then write his name out on his own five times. It was a simple task, but it proved to be a bit of a challenge for the child. He understood the concept in theory, but his hands didn't seem to cooperate with what he was trying to do. It was a frustration that Lex himself could remember having dealt with on numerous occasions when he found himself intoxicated beyond the point that one could dismiss as causal consumption. Kon acted just like him when frustrated too. He tossed the marker down and screamed until he felt better.

“Yes.. Yes.. Letters can be rather challenging when motor functions are not up to par, but do you know we improve them?” Lex acknowledged as he picked up the marker, handing it back as he knelt down onto his son's level. “Practice.”

“No!” Kon snapped as he sat there pouting, hesitating for a moment when his father continued to look at him with the marker in hand, which caused him to backtrack ever so slightly. “Kay..”

“I need to stop leaving you with Roman so much.” Lex remarked as Kon took the marker back into his hand, shaking his head a bit as he straightened himself back up onto his feet. “Kay isn't even a word.”

From there Kon continued to work on his name. Lex made small corrections here and there, but for the most part there wasn't an issue. Kon completed the assignment and handed it over for Lex to grade, and while usually he would be much harsher with his work, this was his son, and his son was also a baby. He put a little gold star sticker on the paper and made some simple notes on how Kon could improve, which he explained to him as he handed it back. He knew Kon would take whatever he said to heart. He always did, and if he was a bit too hurtful about it, then he would end up with Roman up his ass and, by extension, Zsasz. He never liked to address how Zsasz had come into play here.

“Kon, did Zsasz teach you how to do that?” Lex asked when Kon started to stab his marker aggressively into one of the papers on the desk, which created a splatter pattern, taking the little note he received in return as all the confirmation he needed. “I should have known. I need to talk to Roman about controlling that dog of his.”

“Dog?” Kon asked almost excitedly, dropping the marker in his hand as he turned to face Lex instead. “What dog?”

“It's a metaphor.” Lex sighed as he ruffled his son's hair, hesitating for a few seconds when he heard the door knock. “Speak of the devil, I guess.”

It was uncommon for Roman to show up uninvited. In fact, it was routine at this point. Lex let out a sigh and headed to the door. He saw the drone even before he opened the door. Kon has asked him for one for his birthday, but he had said no because he didn't want Kon to fly it around LexCorp property. He had already had issues with unauthorized drone use once this month, and he didn't want to cause a panic because his son wanted to stalk his employees lazily. He should have known Kon would go crying to Roman after that, and this was proof of that.

"Move, bitch!” Roman ordered as he shoved past Kon with the newest drone on the market in hand, a smile visible on his face as he once again lavished Kon with expensive presents that Lex specifically told him he didn't want his son to have. “Kon! Look what Uncle Roman got you!”

“Did you just call me a bitch?” Lex asked in disbelief as Zsasz also walked past him into the house, unable to miss how Kon hugged his new drone like other kids his age would a teddy bear. “You can't just keep giving him whatever he wants.”

“Can't I?” Roman challenged without much thought, already knowing Lex would fold like a cheap metal chair before he ever let his baby cry. “Who's going to stop me? You?”

“At least stop giving him the fake knives.” Lex sighed as he watched Roman help Kon set up his new toy, unable to miss how Zsasz sliced open the box with one of his own knives to make it a little bit easier. “I'm not trying to raise a little serial killer.”

“You bitch when I give him real knives. You bitch when I give him fake knives.” Victor remarked with an overall sense of annoyance, allowing the child to crawl into his lap as Roman sat next to them. “There's no winning with you!”

“It's not very nice to treat your child's godparents like this, Lex.” Roman scolded as he watched Kon play with his new drone, shaking his head a bit as he chose to ignore his friend in favor of a sentimental moment between him and his godchild. "Kon, do you want Zsaszzy Daddy to show you the knife trick again?”

“Yes!” Kon screamed as he turned around in Zsasz's lap to face the man, a smile identical to Lex's plastered on his face as he more or less demanded it. “Show me!”

“I hate that title so damn much.” Lex breathed as he watched these two psychopaths have what most would consider a sentimental moment with his son, his annoyance only growing when Kon started to scream in absolute glee when Zsasz started to entertain him with several knife tricks. “I should have let the clown be his—”

“Don't even finish that fucking sentence.” Roman snapped before Lex had time to even suggest that the Joker could make a better substitute father than he could, cracking a small smile when Lex took the hint and shut the fuck up for once and let his son have his fun. “Good boy.”
